Fb Campaign Final Analysis.

I am so happy for all of you guys out there that has had a successful campaign, yay for you! 

I had a very negative experience with mine, nonetheless a learning experience.  

I took over the page that at the time was called crawlfest, not called Southern Utah 4x4 Trails. It has been treated as a personal page and the people that created has used it to post personal pictures and videos whenever they have been out rock climbing. Their page has likes from friends and family, and an astonishing almost 2000 poeple liking it. But most of these people seem to not care much about the content, just the creators of the page. I got  very little response and low reach compared to the people that has liked it. Except my selfie, my reach went from 200 to over 500, on a selfie with a snapchat filter sponsored by jeep, with a caption encouraging people to post their pictures as well. 

I have had 2-3 likes on my posts, no comments. My data analysis looks good, because the week before was around 0 on everything. 

My tip would be to start this this page all over, and do it the way it was intended to be used in the first place and attract people that was in the target audience, and people that is interested in the subject. Starting it as a resource page, rather than a personal page and start with a clean slate. I believe that the people that are really interested will like the new page as well if we promote it. 

I am sure this is not the last page I will ever be in charge of, and I will take this as a learning experience. Next time will be a hit.

Final

The Lewinsky scandal is not unfamiliar to me, I was not very old when this broke in the media but I still remember it. I do agree with her that she got worldwide attention and this was overexposed in the media.

As an almost-22-year-old I know that this is the time of my life where I can and will make the most mistakes, and hopefully learn from them. I have learned terms like accountability, responsibility and consequences, and I am sure that when she got her job in the white house she know them too. Sleeping with a married man over twice her age that also happen to be the president of the United States, you know there is going to be consequences. 

Back in 1998 something going viral was definitely new, and I believe that this scandal was one of the first ones of its kind when it comes to media coverage. But we now live in 2016, online bullying and shaming are not unfamiliar, and I do believe we are desensitized on the matter. Do we care? maybe. I rarely do. People can have their 15 minutes of fame, and it genuinely does not make a difference in my life. We are so exposed to "big news" all the time, people mess up all the time, and we literally cannot care about everything.

I believe that it is easy to hide behind an anonymous screen, and it is easy to forget that the target of all the mean comments and shameful remarks is an actual person, and therefor showing compassion is not always that easy. The golden rule says that you should treat people the way you want to be treated, and I think that would make the online world a better place, or even only say the words you would be comfortable face to face.

I have personally called out a few bullies online, I was never the target but some close friends were. Calling them out in the comment section usually does not help. I think some of that compassion also has to be for the bully that also does not want to be humiliated. i have sent personal messages just letting them know that what they are doing is not OK or acceptable. Other times, I have reported them to whatever social media platform is being used. I do feel like there is not much else to do. And that is probably in the fear of having the target move over to me. Like everyone else, I do not want to be the center of ridicule. That is the selfish thing to do, and you can call me a coward, I do not wake up every day with a goal of pleasing the internet, but the people around me. The rest seem to irrelevant. 

Facebook Ad

My chosen target for the ad included St. George, Cedar City, Mesquite, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. That is where most of the poeple coming to St. George to go rock climbing is coming from, that is based on what people that does go rock climbing on a regular bases has told me. The age gap is pretty high, but it is within the range of my personas, I also happen to know people between the ages of 21 to almost 60 that is interested in this hobby and that would be the reason for why it is so broad.

In class we talked about call to action. I did not mention that they should like the page, or anything else, because the name of the facebook page is explanatory, and the is a big "like" button right next to it. The caption simply says "Do you like the Red Mountains as much as we do?" Because that is what St. George is known for, and that is where the action is happening. i do feel like this would still get people to like the page, and if not i hope the awesome picture will persuade them.  

Automatic Attitudinal Response Rubric

This is a picture from 2011, taken at Norwich University in Vermont. The person you see in the picture is Rosemary and younger self.
I was in Vermont on a language and culture camp, a two week camp where we went to specific classes and activities to prepare us (400 students from all over the world) for a year as exchange students in American high schools. It was a way of reducing culture shock, and a way of getting to know people in the same boat, to share our fears before starting american school, and share our memories as we left.
As far as Rosemary goes, she worked in the cafeteria at the university where we attended camp. She is a little on the heavier side, short hair, no make/up ect. She would count the people from different camps coming in to eat. My first thought was that she was very American,  in the not positive way, that Im not sure I can explain because it is such a foreign concept (another ethnocentric position). She seemed like a sad person and alone person, and for a minute I felt like I was above her, as if me being me is better than her being here, for no other reason than the fact that I was young and about to experience the biggest adventure of my life, while she was stuck as a cafeteria lady.
If she read this, she would be disappointed in me, so would my parents, and so was I. Barely finishing these idiotic thoughts I was filled with shame for even thinking that I in any way was better than her. I decided to go and talk to her, only for a little bit, and you can say that she was my first introduction to American life, and she was such and interesting person, with a lot of life experiences. I started talking to her during my lunch every day, and we both got to talk about our different cultures, both learning something new from each other.
I learned from this experience that people are so freaking interesting! You learn so much more about a place and its culture by just being open to the people around you, and talking to a someone native to the place you are at will teach you so much more than what hours and hours of reading will teach you.
I kept in touch with Rosemary via letters for a while, last time I got a letter she told me that her house flooded and she had to move. The new letter did not include her new address, which I wish I had.
She taught me the lesson of not judging a book by its cover, because I needed to learn the hard way.

On the Media - Print is Back, Back Again.

This on the media post deals with a topic that is somewhat contradictory to our technological world, and that is that print is rising in numbers rather than the opposite.
There are several reasons for that, we see an increase in coloring books, and independent publishers are getting into the market and not to mention that the sales of book is based off of the current popular books on the market.

Personally I am one of those people that has a "stress relieving" colouring book, and I thought it would be something fun to do on the 25 hour trip between St. George and Krokstadelva and back over Christmas break. So how did they get to the point of being popular? It was an ironic response to corporate life, with coloring pictures of normal work tasks with the captions "color my pants grey, or I'll get fired" and from there it took off. Later on they found out that it had therapeutic implications as well.

They are also talking about Amazon.com that is solemly based on selling EVERYTHING online, is suddenly going analog by setting up over 100 bookstores

So here is what I believe is the reason for why print is trendy again. Everything in our society is becoming more and more technological, and we spend more and more time in front of a screen, and maybe people are tired of that. At least for me, I get a headache reading books on a screen and id rather have the feels and smell of a REAL book in my hands. I can read for 20-40 minutes at the time online, while getting lost in a paper book for several hours.

On the Media: Apple vs. FBI

This is a subject we have already discussed in class, but it is nice to listen to the podcast anyways, as this is a more subjective information source rather than our opinions in class.

Something we have not talked about is that this security feature that the FBI wants to disable on the phone is relatively recent addition in the iPhone software, simply to stop government intrusion. Creating this code that the FBI wants, would defeat the whole purpose of the software in the first place.

Second, they talk about the rounds for both Apple and FBI, and how the FBI already has the access to the metadata through the phone carrier, and that apple is in fact refusing a court order. They are both on shaky grounds, as there is a very little chance that the FBI will find something that they do not already know, and Apple has chosen a case where they stand on very small grounds in the first place.

They also talk about the technicalities of the development of such a software that supposedly does not exist. The current safety feature is after 10 unsuccessful hacks the phone will delete its content, which is the part that the FBI wants disabled. There is a chance that this software gets out there, and maybe in the wrong hands.

As a personal comment, i'm surprised that this blew over so fast in the media, at least in my newsfeed it did. I still see a post every now and then if something major happens, but after 2 days it basically became radio silent on this front.

Religion 3.0

I have so many thoughts on the topic of religion, and i honestly do not know where to start or what point of view to write from. I guess i can start by saying that I do not belong to ay religion, when I was 9 months I was baptized into the lutheran church, which I guess was mostly a formality, its something almost everyone does, in my town it is kind of a norm. But as far as practicing any religion, or believing in God I stand on neutral ground. I have no beliefs, but I do not condemn other who believes different than what I do.

Now that you know the prejudice or biases, or maybe lack thereof i think it is safe to start.

To me, religion is something that struck me as "safeguard". Human beings are afraid to believe that there  is nothing out there besides us, and what we cannot explain defaults to something that God has created.  Humans need something bigger than us to believe in, and there is nothing wrong with that. You can believe what you want, and I'll believe what I want.

Let's talk about religion and media, weird how those two are related. Because what I have been told by most christian is that the relationship you have with God is personal, yet media and people freak out when someone is practicing their faith differently.

Hinduism is probably my favorite religion, they are so calm and peaceful and the ultimate goal is to be so minimalistic and meditate until you reach the the point of enlightenment where you break free of reincarnation. Your punishment for not being good enough is to live over and over and over until you are good enough. Isn't that great? You might have to live your life as a cow, or a frog, but at least you have the chance to reach ultimate enlightenment and understand the universe.

At least that is what I have been taught in school, which also seems insane because in this country the schools have banned the bibles, and people are outraged because their sons and daughters are learning about other people's religious beliefs.

How can we respect people when we don't know their values?

Are we hypocrites? We want to love and respect people, but we also want people to be like us, rather than embracing our differences. . You can put your faith in God, Allah, Buddha, Vishnu, Shiva, Ganesha, Thor, Afrodite  or even in yourself. Let people live their lives the way they want, and start listening to their wisdom.  You can learn a lot about why people act the way they do by just listening, maybe you'll learn a thing or two, and stop being stubborn in your own ways. I think the world would be a better place if people decided to be more open minded rather than condemning what they consider to be different.
